We’re decidedly rubbish at a lot of things in ol’ Blighty – but not crisps.
No, when it comes to crisps, we’re a proud nation of snackers. Everyone’s got their own take on which flavour reigns supreme.
Are you a sharp Salt ‘n’ Vinegar man, or a Smokey Bacon aficionado? Do you like your crisps beefy, or simply Ready Salted? Maybe you’re one of those mavericks who just inhales the stinkiest Cheese ‘n’ Onion crisps you can get your hands on and thinks nothing of the consequences?
Regardless if your personal favourite, have you ever wondered what people not from Britain make of our crisp selection?
A Korean YouTuber who calls himself Korean Billy – the very same Korean Billy that not long ago became internet famous for his hilarious Mancunian impersonations – got a few of his mates together to sample a range of Walkers crisps.
It’s fair to say they had mixed views on the experience, and not all of them will please a certain Mr Lineker.
Ready Salted were first up, getting a solid thumbs up from the trio. “It’s our taste. Korean taste,” they decided.
An even bigger hit was Cheese ‘n’ Onion. “Wow, this is it,” is a phrase you rarely hear being used to describe a bog-standard packet of crisps, but such was the taste impact.
Then it started to go slightly downhill.
After denouncing the Prawn Cocktail Walkers for ‘smelling like pee’, Billy’s female pal compared the aroma of Salt ‘n’ Vinegar to her dad’s socks.
Worcester Sauce fared better – the taste reminded them of stir-fried Kimchi – but still managed to ‘paralyse’ their tongues.
We’ll admit that when they produced a bag of Mr Porky’s Pork Scratchings, we feared the worst. But despite having reservations about the general concept of the scratching (don’t we all?), they seemed to get pretty into them.
Cheese ‘n’ Onion was the overwhelming champion in the taste test, but the young woman – opinionated throughout – said the whole affair was ‘very shocking’.
Her final comments, however, we found to be quite profound.
While we strongly disagree with their Salt ‘n’ Vinegar dismissal, these guys are brilliantly entertaining.
