Marmite ice-cream is now a thing that exists because 2018

James Dawson

As if the world wasn’t f**ked up enough already

Welcome to 2018. Britain is stockpiling food ahead of Brexit, Donald Trump is being followed across the globe by a 20-foot balloon – and gross ice-creams are a thing that gelato places are going out of their way to create now.

That last one is going by the mayo ice-cream that went viral recently and a newly created Marmite ice-cream, which presumably you will either hate or love.

The “wonderfully weird” ice-cream parlour Makcari’s in Kent decided to create, not one, but two variations of Marmite ice-cream.

Their “Marmite X-X-X” flavour has been created specifically for people without tastebuds who want it to taste heavily like Marmite, then there’s a lighter variant available for everybody else.

The ice-cream is priced at £2.50 for one scoop, £3.75 for two scoops or £5.00 for three scoops – which seems reasonable enough.

Nejmi Hassan, co-owner of Makcari’s, said: “Our ice-cream parlour has been open since 1931, but over the last few years, we’ve wanted to offer something different to our customers and provide them with a truly memorable taste of summer. Marmite is a beloved British staple, and we couldn’t be more delighted to toast this National Ice Cream Day with our latest ‘Marmite’ and ‘Marmite X-X-X’ flavours.”

Camilla Williamson, Marmite Brand Manager, said: “As the nation’s favourite savoury breakfast spread, thousands of people slather Marmite on their toast each morning. But when the sun is out, we know Marmite lovers are looking for new ways to indulge whilst keeping cool. We’re incredibly excited to be working with Makcari’s to bring this new Marmite flavour experience to the UK. So, whether you’re a lover or a hater, you won’t truly know until you’ve tried this!”

I doubt it will taste better than Neopolitan.
