JOE

At least one thing to look forward to in 2021

McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets are a design classic. Don’t mess with a classic. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. But what if you added… katsu curry?

McDonald’s UK have announced they are launching Katsu Curry Chicken McNuggets, for the first time ever. The limited edition McNuggets will be 100% chicken breast like regular McNuggets, but this time covered in a panko breadcrumb coating. They will come with Sweet Curry sause to dip them in.

The Katsu Curry Chicken McNuggets will be available from 30th December 2020, for a limited time. So even if we have to stay inside on New Year’s Eve, you can still celebrate with some fancy McNuggets.

They will be available in boxes of six, nine and 20. Six will cost £3.59, the nine-box is £4.09, and 20 will set you back £5.99.

The official product description reads:

What happens when you take two modern icons in the shape of Katsu Curry and Chicken McNuggets, and bring them together for the first time? The new limited edition Katsu Curry Chicken McNuggets are match made in heaven and everything you didn’t know you needed until this very moment. Hitting our restaurants on the 30th December, they are the tastiest way to wave goodbye to 2020 and start the new year as you mean to go on! If you want to try them then you’ll have to be quick, as they’re around for just six weeks.

100% chicken breast meat in a crispy Katsu Curry panko breadcrumb coating, served with our classic Sweet Curry dip – need we say more?

McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets were created by the chain’s first executive chef, René Arend in 1979.

They were first introduced into select markets in 1981, and they were so popular that they had trouble supplying enough chicken.

After upgrades were made to the supply chain, the nuggets were then made available worldwide in 1983.

‘Katsu’ in Japanese cooking refers to a deep-fried cutlet. A chicken katsu is usually served with a curry sauce, leading to a common misconception in the west that katsu’ refers to the sauce.
