They’re small enough as it is!
Terry’s Chocolate Orange fans are outraged at the news that their beloved chocolate treat has shrunk in size. This year they appeared on shelves with a weight of 157g, compared to 175g the previous year.
That’s a reduction in size of 10%.
To make matters worse, shops are still selling them at the original price. At time of writing Tesco is selling the 157g Terry’s Chocolate Orange for £2.
That’s a lot of money for (slightly) less chocolate than usual.
What makes thing worse is the devious tactic would have gone unnoticed if it wasn’t for the work of some chocolate detectives on a Facebook group. The group, aptly called “Stop Ruining Our Chocolate” posted their shocking find all the way back in MAY this year.
We can only assume they were kept silent by Big Chocolate. Or with the Chocolate Orange traditionally being a Christmas treat, no one noticed until the leaves started turning brown.
The Facebook sleuthers manifesto reads thusly:
“Mondelēz International owners of the Terry’s brand since 2012 have now decided to shrink the 1932 chocolate orange from 175g down to 157g, a subtle and obvious trick that they hoped nobody would notice. Well, we noticed and we’re sick of them ruining British chocolate.”
Naturally, people are raging:
THEY ARE REDUCING THE TERRYS CHOCOLATE ORANGE BY 10%. THIS IS A NATIONAL OUTRAGE

#TerrysChocolateOrange if it gets any smaller you'll have to rebrand it as a Terrys Chocolate Satsuma! #TerrysChocolateSatsuma #shrinkage
