Walkers has confirmed a much-loved crisp flavour is officially out of production.
Whilst there are plenty of flavours that the crisp giant would never consider axing, for every cheese and onion there’s a beef and onion.
The Walkers lineup is always evolving, and fans have been dealt some gutting news about one popular retro flavour – Mild Cheese Wotsits.
This particular range of corn-based snack came in a cream bag, and were popular with those who were after a slightly less cheesy and messy Wotsit.
But if you’re reading this thinking ‘That’s me!’ then we have bad news for you: Mild Cheese Wotsits are no more.
Walkers confirmed this on social media last week, when one customer asked on X: “Could you bring less cheesy Wotsits back please?
“Myself and my autistic children can’t cope with the extra cheesy version and I can’t find the original ones anywhere. These were our go to ‘calming’ snack. Crunching calms us.”
The company responded by confirming the Mild Cheese Wotsits were “discontinued many years ago.”
However, they said they would bear the customer’s suggestion about the importance of a “calming snack” in mind.
The unhappy customer replied: “I have an eight-year-old who was eating them until a year or two ago I think. Your answer isn’t what I hoped and it certainly wasn’t ‘many years ago’. There are sites that discuss the horrible new flavour, it’s not just me.”
Whilst this flavour may have disappeared, other flavours of Wotsit have been added in recent months. This includes Crispy Bacon and Cheese Toasties flavours.
Meanwhile, Walkers have launched a new BBQ Sauce flavour of Monster Munch.
These are all part of the manufacturer’s new lower salt range called ‘Yummy With.’
The products are made with chickpeas and contain 25 per cent less salt than their normal counterparts, whilst also being less than 100 calories per bag. Walkers plans to make 50 per cent of its sales from snacks that are non-HFSS (high in fat, salt and sugar) or under 100 calories by 2025.
