Catherine McGrath releases video for “Thought It Was Gonna Be Me”

Will Lavin

Catherine McGrath is one of the UK’s brightest new young stars.

Tipped as one of our 2018 Ones To Watch, it’s not just us that’s been impressed with Catherine McGrath.

Elton John has already expressed his love for the country singer/songwriter and her music by stating: “I think this girl is going to be huge.” So with a co-sign from the Rocket Man himself and featuring high up on our own list of talent to keep an eye on for the coming year, what more convincing do you need?

Sharing the official video for new single “Thought It Was Gonna Be Me”, it’s her ninth consecutive track to be added to the BBC’s New Music Friday UK playlist. It follows her recent single, “Talk of This Town”, which secured her first Radio 1 airplay and was playlisted at Radio 2, where she also performed a session for Michael Ball.

Speaking about “Thought It Was Gonna Be Me”, Catherine says: “It’s about seeing a guy for the first time in a while and thinking you had something between you, then finding out he’s with somebody else.”

Produced by Steve Robson (One Direction, Take That), “Thought It Was Gonna Be Me” is another reason for country and pop fans across the UK and Ireland to fall in love with Catherine McGrath.

While she’s often regarded the UK’s answer to Taylor Swift, there’s something more to her than just being compared to a fellow successful country pop singer. Her innocence and imperfections translates through her music and is much more appealing than something put together by a dozen writers and hired hit-making producers.

Having already sold out both her upcoming London Bush Hall and Manchester Deaf Institute dates, there are still tickets available for a few of her other shows, including her performance at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.
