Drake breaks his silence on Pusha T and Kanye West beefs

Will Lavin

If anyone was going to get him to open up it was going to be Lebron James

Drake appeared as a guest on the LeBron James and Maverick Carter HBO show The Shop last night and he had a few things to get off his chest.

More like a therapy session than a barbershop chat, Drizzy opened up about his recent beefs with Pusha-T and Kanye West. In the episode, he explained why he chose not to release another diss track in response to Pusha’s “The Story of Adidon”:

“Rap purists and people who love confrontation, they love to say, ‘There’s no rules to this shit!’ There are fucking rules to this shit. I’m gonna tell you something, I knew something was gonna come up about my kid. They had to add the deadbeat dad thing to make it more appealing, which is fine. The mom and dad thing… whatever. You don’t even know my family. But wishing death upon my friend who has MS… I study rap battles for a living. When you mention defenseless people who are sick in the hospital, who have passed away, I just believe that there’s a price you have to pay for that. It’s over! Someone’s gonna fucking punch you in the fucking face. The shit’s done, the event’s over. I wanted to do other things. I didn’t want to further your career by rapping back to you and having this exchange.”

Going on to confirm that he did indeed record a response track to Pusha, he said that it contained him saying “terrible things.”

Maverick Carter asked Drake, “You wrote the song and never put it out?” To which the OVO head honcho replied, “Yeah, because I got home, listened back to it, and I was like, ‘Man, this is not something I ever want to remembered for. This is not even a place I necessarily want to go.'”

Giving props to Pusha-T and “The Story of Adidon”, he added, “The song, I thought was trash, but it was a hell of a chess move.”

He even took a second to admit that he texted Lebron James to say “I hope I don’t let you down with my decision” in regards to not releasing a response to Pusha, to which Lebron said, “You’re family, you’re a brother of mine, you could never ever let me down, ever.”

Shining a light on his issues with Kanye West, Drake shared some insider information on how the dispute between the two started. Explaining that Kanye invited him out to Wyoming to work on “Lift Yourself”, he then claimed that Ye didn’t reveal to him that he was planning on releasing a new album, let alone a string of them.

Because they were collaborating, Drake said that Kanye asked him to be “completely transparent,” enquiring about Drake’s then-in-progress Scorpion album and its pending release date.

“I’m in Wyoming. I play him ‘March 14’. I send him a picture of my son. I tell him I’m having trouble with my son’s mother,” Drake said, implying that Kanye revealed the information about his son to Pusha-T for “The Story of Adidon”.

Then insinuating that Kanye planned his string of G.O.O.D. Music album releases to fall within the same time frame as Scorpion, Drake continued: “I wake up, and all these dates are out. One by one by one. All of them around June 15th.”

This is the first time Drake has opened up about his public battle with Pusha T and Kanye West. You can watch the clip below:
