Fan theory about Robyn is blowing minds left, right and centre

How did we miss this?

Darragh Murphy

You’ve probably not thought about Robyn for quite a few years.

Well the Swedish songstress is about to burst right back into your consciousness thanks to a cracker of a theory suggested by a fan of Robyn’s work.

The fan in question, Sam Natiale, has proposed that two of the singer’s best-known hits are actually about the same event.

Robyn’s first Grammy-nominated song, Dancing On My Own, is about the heartbreak felt by the singer as she watches her lover kissing a different woman on the dancefloor of a nightclub.

I’m in the corner, watching you kiss her, oh
I’m right over here, why can’t you see me, oh
I’m giving it my all, but I’m not the girl you’re taking home, oh
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own

Robyn’s second Grammy-nominated song, Call Your Girlfriend, takes the form of some advice from a new lover. Having kissed a girl who is already in a relationship, the new paramour encourages the girl to let her partner know that she wants to see other people.

Call your girlfriend
It’s time you had the talk
Give your reasons
Say it’s not her fault
But you just met somebody new

Don’t you tell her how I give you something that you never even knew you missed
Don’t you even try and explain how it’s so different when we kiss

So is it possible that both songs are about the same night but that one is written from the perspective of the betrayed girl and the other is a conversation between the new lovers?

That’s what this viral theory suggests.

And to say it is blowing minds would be an understatement.
