“Based on a true fantasy”
Those are the words used to sign off the first trailer for Rocketman, the Elton John biopic.
Starring Taron Egerton as the legendary entertainer, the first trailer is more a teaser and shows a series of fast moving snippets from the upcoming movie, that at present is still yet to announce a release date.
The trailer opens with Taron talking over the opening keys to Elton John’s iconic “Bennie and the Jets” before launching into the song’s full instrumental before transitioning into the movie’s title track with Taron’s character singing along.
“There are moments in a rock star’s life,” he begins. “That define who he is. Where there was darkness there is now you, and it’s going to be a wild ride.”
Colourful, flamboyant, and with more costume changes than a Baz Luhrmann movie, Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher and also stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s writing partner Bernie Taupin.
Set to be one of the music movie events of the next 12 months, alongside the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, it’s definitely something not to be missed.
