The footwear brand champion those who do things differently and stamp their own mark on culture in the process

Dr. Martens have always kept their eye on the future music stars of tomorrow.

Inviting us to a few dates on their recent Dr. Martens Presents tour, which consisted of eight shows, in eight cities, in eight days, we were front and centre as the iconic footwear brand shared their finds with the rest of the country.

Hosting a week of live events up and down the UK, sixty lucky attendees at each show were able to enjoy performances by Tom Grennan, Lewis Capaldi, Swim Deep, Bad Sounds, Hex, King Nun, Young T & Bugsey and The Ninth Wave in the most intimate of settings inside some of Dr. Martens’ retail stores.

Kicked off in Cambridge by Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi, Dr. Martens Presents then moved on to Nottingham with hometown hero Hex, and then Birmingham with indie starlets Swim Deep, their first show in the city since 2015.

Attending our first show in Brighton, we got to witness Tom Grennan, one of 2018’s most exciting new artists, up close and personal, fresh off the back of his sold out show at the Brixton Academy.

Whether it was the cheeky banter he had with the 60 lucky fans in attendance, his uniquely stellar vocals that were on display as he sang songs such as “Sober”, “Found What I’ve Been Looking For” and “Barbed Wire”, or his beautifully touching cover of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good”, Tom Grennan’s stop on the tour was incredible.

The next stop on the tour saw Bad Sounds drop by Dr. Martens in Bristol, while on the following night The Ninth Wave visited Glasgow in a bid to prove why they’re one of Scotland’s hottest prospects.

King Nun brought their raucous indie-punk to Newcastle for a set that launched their brand new EP, I Have Love, after which the Dr. Martens Presents tour came to a close in Leeds with Young T & Bugsey, which happened to be our final stop on the tour too.

Tipped to be one of the UK’s hottest breakthrough acts in 2019, Young T & Bugsey’s set at Dr. Martens in Leeds was definitely a great way to close out the tour. With a queue lining up the street to get in, there were definitely more than 60 fans vying to get in to catch a glimpse of the “En Route” hitmakers.

Injecting a shot of adrenaline straight into the hearts of those in attendance thanks to songs like “Gangland” and “No Mickey Mouse Ting”, Young T & Bugsey made sure it was a performance not to be forgotten – the pair even stuck around afterwards to sign autographs and take pictures with the fans.
