What a time to be alive.
First Kendrick Lamar wins a Pulitzer, then Drake announces his new album is arriving in June, and now J. Cole out of nowhere has announced he’s got a new album coming this Friday.
While rumours have been swirling for the past few weeks that J. Cole was up to something after he wiped his Instagram clean and changed his profile image to just the colour purple, last night he posted a single post announcing a free show at the Gramercy Theatre in New York.
The post read: “No phones. No Cameras. No bags. No press list. No guest list.”
It turns out the concert wasn’t your conventional J. Cole show. The Dreamville rapper used the show to play a new album in its entirety. Titled K.O.D., according to RapRadar’s B. Dot Miller, who was in attendance at last night’s free show, K.O.D. stands for three different acronyms: “Kidz On Drugz,” “King Overdose,” and “Kill Our Demonz.”
B. Dot tweeted the title out last night and he also added that Cole apparently recorded the album in just two weeks. Explaining that Cole played the entire album for fans at the show last night, which he believed to be about 12 songs in total, he also said he heard Cole experimenting with his flow more on this project as well.
Shortly after B.Dot revealed this info, J. Cole himself got on Twitter to confirm the news himself, tweeting that K.O.D. is dropping this Friday, April 20th.
