Janet Jackson, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, and the Zombies also made the cut
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2019 inductees have been announced and truth be told, they’re not too shabby.
Radiohead, nominated last year, made it in this time around, along with Robert Smith’s The Cure, a band that were perhaps long overdue a place in the mythical hall.
Janet Jackson, Roxy Music – including Brian Eno, Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, and the Zombies will also be inducted next year.
The induction ceremony will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, presumably when the Nets aren’t playing, on March 29.
Colin Greenwood, bass player in Radiohead, sounded typically optimistic about the band’s performance: “It might be me just doing bass versions of everything like, ‘Come on, you know this one!’ I’d have to play the bass part to ‘Creep’ five times.”
Even so, he still had his film-scoring genius brother to keep him grounded with Johnny Greenwood telling Pitchfork, simply: “I don’t care.”
“Maybe it’s a cultural thing that I don’t really understand,” the guitarist added.
The nominees who missed out were Rage Against the Machine, Kraftwerk, MC5, Rufus & Chaka Khan, LL Cool J, Devo, Todd Rundgren, and John Prine. They will surely take solace in Johnny Greenwood’s words and come back stronger the ever in their pursuit of eternal glory in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
