At just 31-years-old, Sam Smith is certainly no stranger to controversy.
Smith sparks headlines just about wherever they go, no matter what they do, big or small, they’re always delighting some and destroying others.
The singer has come a long way from their early days back when they were known as little more than the Stay with Me and Writing’s on the Wall singer. In more recent years Smith has been called just about everything from ‘vulgar’ and ‘obscene’ to even the second coming of Satan.
Smith, who goes by they/them pronouns, doesn’t seem to mind too much though as they’ve kicked off their Gloria tour wearing a thong and a devil outfit.
Starting their tour in South Beach, Miami, Smith wore a devil costume and topped it off with a black top hat speckled with red horns as well as a red pitchfork, black fishnets, thigh high boots, and a black cape. An interesting look for sure.
The outfit also featured a sparkly black thong as well as a black corset.
The Stay With Me singer was joined by a number of backup singers for the performance and closed the gig with a performance of their new Barbie song.
Gloria the tour is in support of Smith’s fourth album, Gloria, and will visit cities such as New York, Washington DC, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, before coming to an end in Mexico City on September 14.
Their return to the stage comes just two months after the singer cancelled their UK tour with fears they had a permanent injury to their vocal cord.
