Last month the former Death Row Records head honcho was sentenced to 28 years in prison
Marion “Suge” Knight, the man responsible for signing 2Pac to Death Row Records during the mid-90s, has been transferred to a California State Prison to potentially serve out the remainder of his 28 year sentencing for killing a man and injuring another in a 2015 hit and run.
Pleading no contest a couple of months ago, just days before his trail was set to begin, he faced one count for murder and another count for attempted murder after he ran over Terry Carter (the deceased) and Cle “Bone” Sloan in January of 2015 at Tam’s Burgers in Compton, California, around the corner from where the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton was being filmed.
TMZ reports that Knight has now been transferred to Wasco State Prison, located in Kern County and contains 400 beds. Knight will reportedly undergo a series a physical and mental exams, while his records are reviewed to determine his permanent home for the next 28 years. He could stay at Wasco or be shipped off to a different state penitentiary.
Surveillance video from the incident leading to his conviction showed Carter and Sloan confront Suge Knight in his car when he backed up his vehicle, striking one of the men. He then accelerated forward, hitting the man again but then running over Carter in the process.
Suge Knight co-founded Death Row Records, home to 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound and more, with Dr Dre back in 1991. Later declaring bankruptcy, after Dre left to start his Aftermath imprint, the label was sold at auction for $24million in 2008.
