‘Protect The Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ are the band’s first releases since 2005
System of a Down have released new music for the first time in 15 years. Two new songs, ‘Protect The Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’, dropped on System’s Bandcamp page early on Friday morning.
The band, all of whom are of Armenian descent, are raising money for and awareness of what they describe as “a dire and serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia.”
We as SOAD have just released new music for the first time in 15 years. The time to do this is now, as together, the four of us have something extremely important to say as a unified voice. System of a Down published a lengthy statement on the band’s Bandcamp page explaining the situation in Armenia and Artsakh. The proceeds from downloads of the songs will go to the Armenia Fund, a US-based charity providing those in need in Artsakh and Armenia with support and supplies.
“We as System Of A Down have just released new music for the first time in 15 years,” the band wrote.
“The time to do this is now, as together, the four of us have something extremely important to say as a unified voice.
“These two songs, “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” both speak of a dire and serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia.
“We’re proud to share these songs with you and hope you enjoy listening to them. Further, we encourage you to read on to learn more about their origins and once you do, hope you are inspired to speak out about the horrific injustices and human rights violations occurring there now.
The band also released a video for the track ‘Protect The Land’, which you can watch below.
The band’s last release was 2005’s Hypnotize, before going on hiatus in 2006. Since then System have reformed for various headline appearances at festivals and other shows, but the release of ‘Protect The Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ represent the first releases of new music for some time.
