They claim it’s the only factory in the UK that produces burgers for the fast-food giant
Animal rights group Animal Rebellion has blockaded a major McDonald’s factory, in their latest protest calling for the fast-food chain to switch to a plant-based menu.
In a post on Twitter, the group claimed they had “shut-down the only factory in the UK that produces burgers for @McDonaldsUK”. They added that three million burger patties are produced at the site everyday.Â
They encouraged people to come down and join them at the blockade.
In another tweet, Animal Rebellion said: “We won’t leave until McDonald’s commits to go plant-based by 2025 to address the enormous impact they have on the climate, our planet and on animals. The time to act is now.”

The group have erected bamboo structures and are camped out in the gateway to the factory, obstructing lorries from entering or leaving the complex.
The factory is owned by OSI Food Solutions who supply beef and pork patties to over 1,200 McDonald’s restaurants in the UK, and pork patties to 81 McDonald’s restaurants in the Republic of Ireland.
In a statement, Humberside Police said: “Officers from Humberside Police are currently deployed at a food distribution centre on Luneburg Way in Scunthorpe following reports of a demonstration of around 50 people at the entrance to a food distribution centre.
“Officers are in attendance in order to allow people to go about their lawful business and to protect the right of individuals to take part and exercise their right to peaceful protest.
“The roads in and around the industrial estate remain unaffected as the demonstration is at the entrance to one premise.
“We are liaising with representatives from all sides to address concerns.
“We are committed to fulfilling our duty to protect the human rights of all the groups and individuals with an interest in this situation.”
This is the second time that Animal Rebellion has targeted McDonald’s this year. Back in May, the group blocked entrances at four McDonald’s distribution centres across the UK with the same demand.
