Winter is coming

A so called arctic blast is set to be hitting the UK smack in the face any time in. the next 24 hours so if you’ve not got your hat and scarf out, now might be the time.

The Met Office has warned that parts of the UK will be hit with sleet and snow, with Saturday expected to be one of the coldest nights of the year thus far with sub-zero temperatures in parts

While of course this sort of weather can be expected as we teeter ever closer to December, the UK had the first frosts of the year in October.

A Met Office spokesperson explained: “We can see there’s big swings in temperatures, all it takes is a quick change from a southern wind into a north wind to have that change.

“It’s not unusual to see these changes.”

Sleet and snow may fall in the north of Scotland and on peaks above 400 metres (1,312ft) high according to their national weather agency.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern explained: “By the end of the week we are going to see cold winds arrive from the north.

“It’s going to feel colder this week and there will be some snow showers over, mainly, hills of northern Scotland.

“But elsewhere, with high pressure in place, it is going to be mostly dry on Friday and into the start of the weekend.”

Sky News weather producer Chris England also commented that we can expect this Arctic air to linger over most of the UK over the next few days with strong winds, rains, snow, ice, and sleet, all predicted.
