Songs Of Praise presenter Aled Jones will not be appearing on the BBC in the immediate future.
The BBC are investigating alleged inappropriate behaviour on his part that took place more than a decade ago. The singer and TV host has said that he was “deeply sorry” for any upset caused but Jones has strongly denied any “inappropriate contact”.
A spokesman for the 46-year-old said that while the matter did not relate to any broadcast work, he had voluntarily agreed not to go on the BBC while it was investigated.
The statement reads: “Whilst he accepts that his behaviour over a decade ago was occasionally juvenile, as was that of others, he never intended to harass or distress and he strongly denies any inappropriate contact. He is, however, deeply sorry for any upset caused and hopes this matter is resolved soon.”
Jones received an MBE in 2013 for his services to music and broadcasting. He has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, Daybreak, Escape to the Country and Cash in the Attic.
He last featured on a BBC show on October 22.
A few weeks ago, the BBC said that they’re investigating 25 sexual harassment cases due to a ‘spike’ in the number of complaints in the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
The station also pulled Ed Westwick’s new television series from their schedule following the recent allegations of sexual assault against the Gossip Girl actor.
