Well that’s a relief.
You’ll no doubt recognise Jon Kay as a presenter on BBC Breakfast alongside Naga Munchetty and Louise Minchin, even with his newly grown beard. But he combines that gig with being the West of England Correspondent for BBC News, and is often seen reporting on very serious stories indeed.
That was the case on Wednesday lunchtime when he was summarising a murder trial at Bristol Crown Court – no laughing matter we’re sure you’ll agree. But many of the viewers at home were more than a little concerned about Kay’s well-being, due to what looked like a perilous situation for the reporter.
As Kay was broadcasting live from Bristol, a huge blue HGV began turning in his direction in the background. It got closer and closer with no signs of stopping. As it seemed to be inches away from Kay, the footage suddenly cut to veteran anchor Simon McCoy back in the studio and the nation was left in suspense…

Thankfully, Kay was able to confirm he was very much alive and well on social media – and literally put things into perspective. Phew!!
Happy to confirm that I am not under a truck. Looked closer than it was. We were on the pavement. https://t.co/PPwi4WAZzI
