A terrifying reminder of how dangerous and stupid this sport is
A brave father has gone viral after he managed to save his son from being attacked by a raging bull at the Bell County Expo Center rodeo in Belton, Texas back in February.
In terrifying footage that lasts less than 20 seconds, 18-year-old bull-rider Cody Hooks is bucked from his bronco almost instantly, falling unconscious as he hits the ground and the antagonised bull continues to rampage around the ring.
As you can see, as fellow riders and trainers attempt to corral the raging bull while it spins uncontrollably, Cody’s father Landis has to make a split-second decision and jumps on his son’s body to protect him from the incoming charge.

The bull quickly spots Cody lying helplessly on the floor and goes to head-butt him and his dad headfirst; luckily, the bull only manages to nudge the two along the ground as you can hear the announcer applauding “that cowboy [for] laying his life over the top” of his child’s.
Speaking to local news outlet KWTX, dad Landis said, “all I could think about was just covering him up because he couldn’t cover himself up” and, as for any criticism of the sport, he added: “I’d much rather do that than get in a cage and go cage fighting, I can promise you that”.
The young Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) rider himself commented in his caption: “big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the other bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx could’ve been a hella lot worse. #blessed.”
