Britain’s first gay dads are set to welcome triplets after spending £1m on IVF

This the not the first time the couple has made history

The UK’s first gay dads are set to welcome triplets into their family after spending a staggering £1m on IVF. The historical moment could also be the first time three parents have appeared on an official birth certificate.

Manchester businessman Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 51, and 56-year-old Tony became millionaires despite their early lives being spent on council estates in Longsight and Wythenshawe.

The couple made history twenty years ago after being the first same-sex couple to be jointly named on the birth certificate of their twins.

Now, after a £1 million run of IVF, they are ready to open their home to triplets via an American surrogate.

Barrie and Tony separated in 2019 after 32 years together. Barrie is now engaged to 28-year-old Scott Hutchinson.

All three men provided sperm for the IVF process and could see the three men added to the birth certificate, with many lawyers believing this could call for a change in legislation.

“It is the most incredible feeling,” Barrie told the Sunday Mirror.

“We are thrilled. Family is everything.”

The triplets will join the already bustling family whose ranks are comprised of: Saffron and Aspen, 22; Orlando, 17, Jasper and Dallas, 11; and Valentina, who is 15 months.

Two of the implanted embryos have been kept frozen for 22 years, while a third has been frozen since 2019 and is the biological twin of Valentina.

“I am as excited about this pregnancy as I was about the first,” Barrie told the Mail Online.
