‘I just can’t believe what the bloody government is doing to us’
A former care worker has shared her devastation after being sacked from her job as a care worker because she refused to get vaccinated against covid-19.
Louise Akester has had her contract terminated because of the government requirement for all care workers in adult care homes who do not have medical exemptions to be double vaccinated.
It is expected to be announced on Tuesday (November 9) that all NHS staff must be fully vaccinated by the spring. There are an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 NHS workers in England who are currently completely unvaccinated.
However for care workers, the deadline to be vaccinated is on Thursday (November 11).
Hull Live reports that Akester has worked for the last three years at Alderson House, Hull, and in the care sector for 14 years.
The 36-year-old from Hull says in the video: “That’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, saying goodbye to everybody, all the people that I’ve cared for, for so long, the people I’ve worked with. It’s been so emotional, this is so unfair.
“I just can’t believe what the bloody government is doing to us, I just don’t get it, I don’t understand.”
She added: “I’m literally heartbroken and the residents in there are crying their eyes out.
“I can’t do it. This is awful.”

Although Akester has refused to get the jab, she has been tested three times a week for covid as part of her job’s requirements, worn PPE and followed “all guidelines relating to infection control.”
According to data from NHS England, around 89.4 per cent of staff working in older age care homes had received two vaccine doses as of October 31.
