Bad weather has been blamed for the cargo ship sinking
A cargo ship with 30 crew members on board has sunk 30 miles away from Iran’s Assaluyeh port, authorities have said.
The operations manager of the Salem Al Makrani Cargo company, Captain Mizar Qaddoura, confirmed that the Al Salmy 6 had sunk while carrying cars across the Persian Gulf.
Qaddoura said that 16 crew members had been rescued, with another 11 making it onto a life raft. Another person was saved by a nearby tanker.
However, two other crew members are thought to still be in the water amid rough and windy conditions.
A UAE-owned cargo ship carrying cars has sunk off the coast of Iran's Bushehr Province, according to the local port authority.

Authorities have blamed bad weather for the ship sinking, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reports.
The head of the Maritime Safety and Protection Department Hojjat Khosravi said: “Apart from the Assaluyeh boat, two tow trucks were sent to the scene of the accident.
“Due to unfavorable weather conditions and strong winds, the Emirati ship sank before their arrival.”
The Persian Gulf has been experiencing strong winds, causing disruptive weather and storms.
