He is due in court in June

Two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand were attacked by a lone shooter in March. 51 people died and many more were left injured. It was the worst massacre in the nation’s history.

A man has since been charged with “engaging in a terrorist act,” New Zealand police have announced. He is already facing charges of both murder and attempted murder.

The Australian man will appear in court next month.

Unlike many other countries to suffer similar tragedies, New Zealand passed a ban on military-style semi-automatic assault rifles within a week after the attacks.
