A report from TMZ has now claimed that Tom Petty is ‘clinging to life’ after a heart attack, following earlier reports that the singer had died.

The rock star’s death was widely reported on Monday evening, after it was claimed the 66-year-old had been found unconscious at his home in Malibu. However, the fresh report from TMZ now states that although Petty is ‘not expected to live throughout the day’, reports of his death were premature.

The report claims that Petty has been taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital with TMZ sources claiming he has been placed on life support. Sadly, it also adds that he had no brain activity.

Famous songs such as Free Falling, I Won’t Back Down and American Girl saw Petty’s band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Petty had been performing as recently as last Monday, where he ended a huge tour with a concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
