The photo has divided opinion
David Beckham has re-sparked a debate about the “appropriateness” of kissing his 10-year-old daughter on the lips following a recent photo that the former footballer posted to his instagram account.
Over the years, Becks has divided opinion and received criticism for kissing his children on the lips – and just this week, he continued to make waves thanks to a photo of himself and daughter Harper posted on social media.
“Daddy & Princess Leia had a lovely walk this morning,” said the star, alongside a couple of photos – one of which showed father and daughter kissing each other on the lips.

Beckham can be seen sporting a rather over-the-top, goofy expression in the picture in question – perhaps alluding to the fact that he’s well aware of the chatter he’s about to stir up in the comments. Regardless – and rather unsurprisingly – the comment section did have some thoughts on the snap – and his followers didn’t hold back when it came to sharing them.
Some were all for a bit of family affection.
“Father love” posted one user seemingly in favor of the pose.
“So sweet, very lovely father and daughter” posted another, alongside a handful of colourful heart emojis and smiling faces.
“Beautiful!! But wait for the ‘don’t kiss your child on the lips’ complete weirdo comments” said another Insta account, patiently awaiting the opinions that were about to be fired Beckham’s way.
They weren’t wrong, either.
“I think kissing your children on the lips is not proper” shared one account that disagreed with the image, while another even went so far as to offer some advice, wanted or not: “Kissing your dad on the lips at 43 years old isn’t normal. Seek a therapist.”
Meanwhile, one of the sportsman’s followers offered their advice on how they can take future pictures, saying why doesn’t Beckham “show [his] love” by “kissing on the forehead, cheek, etc” before adding that his 10-year-old kid is “not a baby anymore and kisses on the lips are unacceptable.”
This isn’t the first time a photo like this has made the rounds. Back in 2017, Beckham posted the below – and received similar backlash.

The former England captain went on to explain himself, saying at the time: “Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18, he might find that a little bit strange. But I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I was brought up and [wife Victoria Beckham], and it’s how we are with our children.
“We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and we’re very affectionate with them.”
Together with former Spice Girl, model and fashion entrepreneur Victoria Beckham, the sport star has four children – Brooklyn, 22, Romeo, 19, Cruz, 16 and 10-year-old Harper.
