Singer and actor Demi Lovato has said that the term ‘alien’ is offensive to other-worlders and we should instead use the term ‘extraterrestrials’.
The former child-star of Disney Channel sitcom Sonny with a Chance claims that it is a “derogatory term” and that “ET’s” should be used instead, they said in an interview with PEDESTRIAntv.
“I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything,” Lovato said.
The term alien is often used in a derogatory manner to describe immigrants and other marginalised communities.
They added: “That’s why I like to call them ETs!”
Lovato is also bothered by the idea that all extraterrestrials are in the business of global domination, saying “that they’re harmful or that they’ll come and take over the planet,” is also offensive.
“I really think that if there was anything out there that would want to do that to us, it would have happened by now,” they continued.
Lovato recently told E! News‘ Daily Pop that they had a close encounter out in the desert.
“We went out into the desert in Joshua Tree and I basically saw this blue orb that was about 50 feet away, maybe less, and it was kind of like floating above the ground, just like 10 or 15 feet, and it was kind of keeping its distance from me,” they explained.
The star is currently promoting their new show Unidentified with Demi Lovato, where the singer takes a road trip in search of UFOs. The series is available on Peacock TV.
