He wants to “allay people’s concerns”
A doctor on Good Morning Britain (GMB) said that there is no link between the Oxford vaccine and blood clots.
This came after concerns over the Oxford-AstraZeneca were raised after people reported blood clots after being given the vaccine.
Some countries, including Denmark, Norway and Iceland, have temporarily suspended the use of the Oxford vaccine as a “precautionary measure”, while a full investigation into the link between blood clots and the vaccine takes place.
However, there is currently no indication that the vaccination causes blood clots and they are not listed as a side effect of the vaccine, the EU’s medicines regulator said.
Speaking on GMB this morning, Dr Amir Khan said: “5 million people across Europe have had the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. 30 of them developed blood clots. When you look at the background to that, 1 in 1,000 people would develop blood clots anyway, without the vaccine.”
“I want to allay people’s concerns. There is no link between the vaccine and blood clots.”
A report from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said: “The vaccine’s benefits continue to outweigh its risks and the vaccine can continue to be administered while investigation of cases of thromboembolic events is ongoing.”
“EMA is aware that the Danish Health Authority has paused its vaccination campaign with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca. This was decided as a precautionary measure while a full investigation is ongoing into reports of blood clots in people who received the vaccine.”
The report said that the number of vaccinated people with blood clots is no higher than the number seen in the general population.

As of 4pm on Thursday, over 23 million people have now received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, with over 1,351,000 receiving their second jab.
As the vaccine programme continues to be rolled out quickly, people aged between 56 to 59 are now being contacted by the NHS to receive their first jab.
