Trump failed to see the funny side of SNL’s Christmas parody of him
Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to call for Saturday Night Live to be “tested in courts” after it mocked him in its final episode of 2018.
In a spoof of festive classic It’s a Wonderful Life, the sketch saw Trump visit a world where he had never become US president, resulting in his staff leading much happier lives.
In it, Mike Pence became a DJ, Eric Trump attended adult education classes, and Melania divorced him rather than becoming first lady. Watch the sketch here:
However, despite having previously hosted the show in 2004 and again in 2015, the president failed to see the funny side of the sketch.
“A REAL scandal is the one sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live,” Trump tweeted on Sunday. “It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?”

The US leader previously hit out at the show after its season premiere saw Kanye West donning a “Make America Great Again” hat and giving a lengthy speech at the close of the show.
“Like many, I don’t watch Saturday Night Live (even though I past hosted it) – no longer funny, no talent or charm. It is just a political ad for the Dems. Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told “no”), was great. He’s leading the charge!” Trump tweeted at the time.
Trump wasn’t the only political target in on the show, Kate McKinnon played Theresa May as part of it “Happy Christmas, Britain” parody, alongside Matt Damon, who played David Cameron.
