The man donning a St George’s flag trespassed onto the roof of a tunnel
Eurostar was forced to cancel all services in and out of London’s St Pancras station after a man with a St George’s flag trespassed onto and spent the night on the roof of a tunnel.
Thousands of passengers had their travel plans halted before the 44-year-old man was caught by police on Saturday morning. Eurostar was forced to cancel at least eight trains during the disturbance, due to what was described as the man being in “a precarious position”.
An image posted on Twitter showed the man, with the St George’s flag draped around him, standing on the roof of a tunnel out of the station.
Police were called to the station at 7pm on Friday evening after reports of a man standing on the roof, and Eurostar quickly cancelled all trains until 9.45am on Saturday morning.
The British Transport police said: “A 44-year-old man has this morning been arrested for trespass and obstruction of the railway, having spent the night on the roof of St Pancras railway station.”
A Eurostar spokesman said: “We have suspended all services to and from London St Pancras until 9.45am, due to a trespasser on the tracks.
“We strongly recommend you not travel this morning and please cancel your journey or exchange ticket free of charge.”
