When Storm Desmond forced the closure of a biscuit factory in Carlisle, the future of Great Britain’s collective well-being was looking alarmingly bleak.
Desmond’s wrath and the flooding that followed meant United Biscuits HQ had to halt production. It hit supplies of McVitie’s Ginger Nuts, Custard Creams and Bourbons, among other favourites.
But United Biscuits finally have some good news for panicked customers, who have apparently written to the factory in their numbers since the closure. They are officially back in business, and the Great British Biscuit crisis is consigned to history.
Manufacturing director Mark Taylor told the Independent that his company have been grateful for the public support in the tricky period.
“We know how popular our brands are and how disappointing it has been waiting their return [sic]. We appreciate everyone’s patience in bearing with us,” he said.
“Over the past four months, we’ve come together to get the factory back up and running as quickly as possible.
“Full production has now resumed. We couldn’t be happier or more thankful to everyone who has supported us in getting the factory back up and running.”
We can all raise a mug of tea to that.
