What sensational news for anyone who has been gripped by Making A Murderer on Netflix.
On Friday night came the startling – and for many wholly unexpected – news that Brendan Dassey had had his conviction overturned for intentional homicide in relation to the death of Teresa Halbach.
Court documents stated that Dassey, who was 17 years old when convicted, should be “released from custody unless, within 90 days of the date of this decision, the State initiates proceedings to retry him”.
Now, clearly the death of Halbach and the fact that it looks as if Dassey spent nine years in prison for something he did not do is no laughing matter. That said, many are jubilant about the latest news.
A common thread is running through the messages of happiness at the Manitowoc native’s imminent release. That’s because Dassey is a huge wrestling fan, and WWE Summerslam is just a few days away.
The event takes place on August 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and as you can see, many are chuffed to bits that Dassey’s good news comes at such a pertinent time…
Glad that Brendan Dassey's will be home for the WWE Summerslam #justice
