Looks like we’re set for a Facebook name change
The social media platform Facebook is set to change its name as early as next week according to reports.
As reported by The Verge, the name change is part of a company-wide rebrand – with the social media giant owning Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more – as CEO Mark Zuckerberg looks set to focus on the ‘metaverse’.

The metaverse is essentially a term that refers to an alternative virtual world that people can dive into in order to escape their own reality (think VR but one huge step further) and Zuckerberg apparently wants to be at the forefront of this new technological frontier.
He pre-empted this change of focus back in July when he told the publisher that he wants Facebook to change its perception from “primarily being a social media company to being a metaverse company”, revealing that more than 10,000 employees are already working on AR (augmented reality) glasses and believes they will soon be as commonplace as smartphones.
According to an insider source, the name change itself is set to be discussed at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th, though details could be leaked sooner. While the new Facebook name is a closely guarded secret, people are wondering if it could possibly be linked to the name of their still in development VR app, Horizon Worlds.
A spokesperson from the company naturally declined to comment on a Facebook name change or any of the other details surrounding the social media giant’s upcoming conference or larger plans, but this could mark one of the most important rebrands and moments in technological history.
