At long last, the era of autocorrect typos and regrettable late-night confessions and texting the wrong person looks like it could finally be over as Apple has announced that users can now edit, mark as unread and even un-send texts on iMessage.

The new message editing function comes as part of iOS 16 – the first beta of which was revealed to developers on Monday and while no official release date has yet been announced, the update is expected to be rolled out in time for autumn.
Unveiling a myriad of new features as part of their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6, as you can see in short clip above, Apple detailed how you can now fix unfortunate typos, mark as unread if you’re too busy to reply instantly and even pretend that embarrassing text after one too many shandies never happened at all by simply deleting the message.
That last one is going to come in handy for a fair few of you, we’re sure.
Other new additions to iOS 16 announced at this year’s conference included the ability to further edit and personalise your lock and home screen, tailor your focus and ‘do not disturb’ parameters; create a shared iCloud photo library, new mail organisation and Apple Pay tools, just to name a few.
There was plenty of interesting stuff to get to grips with – but these next messaging functions are long overdue. Hopefully, we’re all about to see a lot less random ducks popping up in our text chats.
