A man believed to be the first British person to contract Covid-19 has sadly passed away following a “tragic accident”.

Connor Reed, who tested positive for the virus while studying as a teacher in Wuhan, China, returned to the UK to study in Wales following his recovery.

Mother Hayley has since confirmed her son’s passing on Facebook, stating that he had been found dead in his university halls.

It brings me great sadness to announce our beautiful son Connor Reed has passed away in a tragic accident at Bangor University at the weekend,” she wrote.

He will be so greatly missed by his brothers, family and friends. He had such a wonderful smile, enthusiasm and love for life.

We are blessed to have had you in our lives if only for a very short time. Rest in peace our darling.

Connor, age 26, previously spoke of his experience with coronavirus while living in Wuhan during a 16 week lockdown.

Catching Covid in late November, he said that he received little treatment because medical professionals did not know what he had.

“I didn’t know what it was. Doctors didn’t know what it was,” he said at the time. “The problem with the coronavirus is you get better before you get worse.

“In the stage where it was more like the flu, I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. It was debilitating.”

His mother Hayley, who currently lives in Australia, told The Sun that she will be holding two funerals for her son, one in Brisbane and one in the UK.

“We are both broken hearted that his adventures came to an end at Bangor University where he was studying for a degree in Chinese language with what looks like a tragic accident,” she said.
