Ford is providing young people with free driving lessons

JOE

Free driving lessons. It sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

Unfortunately for those of you thinking that this might be a cheap way of ditching your L plates, it’s not something you’ll be able to take advantage of until you’ve passed your driving test.

According to The Independent, car giant Ford is investing a whopping €2.9 m (£2.2m) this year to teach 7,000 18 to 24-year-olds across Europe how to drive safely.

The lessons will warn about the dangers posed by drugs, alcohol and using your phone and social media while driving.

Ford have already invested nearly £7.5m on the Driving Skills for Life prgramme since 2013 with 13,500 drivers benefiting from the scheme.

Given that car crashes are the leading cause of deaths in people in the 18 to 24 age group, it’s good to see a major car company using its own resources to try to make a difference.
