A GoFundMe has been set up for the young girl
After England fans were criticised for cheering at the sight of a crying German girl during Tuesday’s Euro 2020 fixture, a fundraiser has been set up.
The child was picked out by camera operators during looking particularly bereft as Germany lost 2-0 to England in the most recent round of the tournament.
In what was probably a little too predictable a response, England fans in Wembley promptly erupted in cheers at the sight.
Similarly, screengrabs of the girl in distress were quickly shared on social media alongside insults and jeers.
The behaviour of certain sections of England fans has rightly sparked criticism, after people online even went so far as to call her a ‘Nazi’.
Alastair Campbell condemned the behaviour, tweeting:
Twitter awash with ‘grown men’ jerking off at a pic of a young German girl crying, having earlier enjoyed booing the German national anthem.
Meanwhile German manager, team, German Ambassador and the brilliant @J_Klinsmann showing class which Southgate and @england team emulate
Grace in defeat is a special quality. Grace in victory ought to be a lot easier.
The GoFundMe is titled: ‘We’re raising £500 to show this little German supporter that not everyone in the UK is horrible’.
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised almost £1,400.
