It had already been ruled that Petito’s death was a homicide.
A coroner has confirmed that Gabby Petito died as a result of strangulation.
Dr Brent Blue, the Teton County Coroner, discussed the findings from the autopsy carried out on the 22-year-old and concluded that her death was indeed a homicide.
But before now, the cause of death had not yet been revealed.

Police are still trying to locate Petito’s boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, who has been named as a person of interest in the case. The couple had left together in the summer to go on a cross-country trip on their renovated van.
However, at the start of September Laundrie returned to his Florida family home on his own in the van. Petito was officially reported as missing by her family on September 11.
Laundrie has refused to speak to police despite being named as a person of interest in the case. He was last seen on September 14.
Petito’s body was discovered on 19 September in the Bridger-Teton National Forest near Jackson, Wyoming.
Three days later an arrest warrant was issued for Laundrie, but he remains missing.
This is despite the best efforts of Dog the Bounty Hunter, who said his hunt for Laundrie was entering its ‘last day.’
This was 15 days ago. Laundrie is still missing.
