Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released a statement on the death of Prince Philip, Harry’s grandfather.

Prince Philip’s death was confirmed earlier on Friday, as Buckingham Palace announced:

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton were the first royals to issue a brief statement, saying “The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

Harry and Meghan, now living in California after stepping away from royal duties, have since issued a statement of their own, expressing their sorrow at the news of Philip’s passing.

A short statement posted to their Archewell foundation website simply reads:

“In loving memory of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021.

“Thank you for your service, you will be greatly missed.”
