The shooting happened at the Zombie Experience at the Hollywood Wax Museum Haunted House

A customer at a haunted house in the US has appeared in court after allegedly shooting a gun at one of the workers.

Police in South Carolina arrested Keal Latrell Brown following the incident at the Zombie Experience at the Hollywood Wax Museum Haunted House in Myrtle Beach.

The 39-year-old attended the attraction with a group on 16 April. After several members of the group got spooked by a performer, one fell to the ground. During the scramble, a gun was said to have come loose and struck Brown in the foot.

Brown told investigators he believed the gun was a prop used as part of the performance and “picked it up and fired twice,” police said, according to NBC News.

The victim was struck in the shoulder, authorities said.

Brown was named a suspect hours after the shooting and was arrested near Charleston on 18 April. He was brought back to Myrtle Beach the following day and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allegedly giving the gun to a minor after the incident.

NBC affiliate WMBF of Myrtle Beach reports that minor was Brown’s 15-year-old child, and investigators don’t know who the gun belonged to.

Police said additional charges are likely.
