The TV vet visited Costco to try and buy Calpol for families fleeing Ukraine

Homes Under the Hammer star Martin Roberts broke down outside the supermarket as he shared the news that his purchase for Ukrainian children had been “rejected.”

The 58-year-old TV veteran took a trip to Costco in the hopes of buying Calpol for families fleeing a war-torn Ukraine but upon reaching the checkout, the star was told he could not purchase that amount due to restrictions on buying medicine.

In a teary-eyed video filmed outside the shop, Roberts explained how other shoppers came to his aid and purchased bottles of Calpol to get as many as possible.

He explained: “So listen, like you, I’m properly just really at a loss in terms of what I can do to help with what’s going on in Ukraine.

“So I’ve come to Costco and I’ve just been buying lots of things like Pampers, kids stuff, Tampax and other bits and pieces.

“You know, things for kids because it’s the kids, you know, [they’re] everything.”

Despite Roberts only being permitted to purchase two bottles of the children’s painkiller, “some people in the queue behind me and some people in the queue at the side of me” were able to purchase four more between them.

He added: “And I offered them the money, it was about 10 quid for four, and they wouldn’t take it.”

The Warrington-born presenter also spoke on people doing “their bit” and how “even a couple of bottles of these might help.”

In the caption, Roberts also wrote: “I wonder if @costco_uk had some collection bins that people could just put donations in, it would avoid this situation. Help me try to make it happen.”
