Footage also shows civilians rushing to rescue the motorist

A video circulating on social media shows the shocking moment a Russian tank crosses over the road to crash into a motorist in Ukraine.

The footage appears to have been filmed by a person living in Ukraine watching out of a window while inside their home.

A Russian tank can be seen coming down the road, before crossing over to the left hand side and running over another vehicle.

Warning: you may find this footage distressing

Thankfully, another video published later today appears to show the person who was in the vehicle being rescued.

Multiple men can be seen yanking parts off the car and using tools to try and help the person out of the smashed-up vehicle.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had ordered a “military operation” in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, as revealed during a televised address released last Friday. However the scale of what is happening appears to go far beyond this description.

The country began its invasion of Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning when multiple explosions were heard in major cities and emergency sirens sounded across the country.

Missiles were captured crashing into Ivano-Frankivsk Airport – one of a number of airports which were targeted. By the end of the day, Russia had seized the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the north of Ukraine, with credible reports suggesting staff were being held hostage, according to the White House. Excess levels of radiation are being reported at the power plant, a Ukrainian government organisation claimed.

At the 24-hour mark, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 137 civilians and military personnel had been killed in the conflict.

Air strikes and explosions continued through the night. On Friday, Russian forces reached just north of the Ukraine capital Kyiv.

Following President Zelenskyy declaring martial law yesterday, Ukraine has now made it illegal for men aged 18 to 60 to leave the country. This will undoubtedly separate many families, as has already been shown in a viral video of a Ukrainian father saying an emotional goodbye to his daughter.

Speaking from his office in Kyiv today, President Zelenskyy accused European leaders of not taking enough action to slow the Russian advance.

He said: “Like World War Two, you said never again, but here it is again and you’re not doing enough to respond.”

The president said it isn’t too late to stop Russian “aggression” if European leaders act soon and called on citizens across the EU to protest and force their governments into more decisive action.

He added: “I am sure you see this – all of you, the whole of Europe. But we don’t quite see what you are going to do about this, how you are going to defend yourself when you are so slow to help Ukraine.”
