Ever since its launch, Instagram has only let you upload square photos, but that will soon change.
The photo sharing app, which is owned by Facebook, has announced that it will allow you to post full size photos in both landscape and portrait.
What’s even better is you don’t have to do any work. When you upload your photo, Instagram will automatically resize it to the right orientation.
Instagram said in a blog post: ‘Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.
‘It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format, and we know that it hasn’t been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots and the subject of your video feels cramped.’
The good news doesn’t end there – Instagram has also revealed that filters will now be available for use on video posts as well as on photos.
We’re very happy we no longer have to choose which friends we crop out of our photos… which of our two friends.
