Some have said they’ll never play Tenacious D again

Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass has sparked fury after he made a controversial comment about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

Gass is one half of hit comedy rock duo Tenacious D, alongside actor Jack Black, with the pair best known for songs such as Tribute and Kickapoo.

But he’s found himself at the centre of controversy following comments he made the day after Trump was shot in the ear by a gunman at a rally in Pennsylvania.

During a show at the ICC Theatre in Sydney, Australia, on July 14, the band celebrated Gass’ 64th birthday. In footage captured by those in attendance, Gass is presented a cake by his bandmate Black, who asks him to make a wish as he blows at the candles.

Gass then responds: “Don’t miss Trump next time,” prompting laughter from the audience.

The comments have sparked fury online, with people accusing Gass of glorfying gun violence and wishing Trump dead, Variety reports.

Reacting to Gass’ words, one person said: “I used to love @tenaciousd and thought Jack Black was funny. None of them or their music/movies will ever be played in our home again. Ever. Sickening. Not funny and done in a foreign country is even worse.”

Another wrote: “For Kyle Gass from Tenacious D to think it’s funny to wish another person shot no matter what side of the politics you are on is disgusting, so was the Audience on Sunday night in Sydney for cheering. Shameful.”

Someone else labelled Gass comments as “sick.”

Trump was hit in the ear by a bullet when a gunman fired at him from a nearby rooftop.

Trump quickly ducked to the ground as he was swarmed by security, and when he stood up blood could be seen on his ear, which appeared to have been grazed by a bullet.

The gunman was identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. He had positioned himself on a roof approximately 200 yards away from where the rally was taking place and was shot dead by security forces.

One man was killed in the attack in Saturday. Corey Comperatore, a husband and father of two, died trying to protect his family during the shooting.

Two other people were critically injured.
