Corbyn believes we should not ‘roll the red carpet out’ for someone who uses such ‘racist and misogynist rhetoric’

Jeremy Corbyn will boycott the banquet during Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK this June. The Labour leader said the UK should not “roll the red carpet out” for the President of the United states due to his use such “racist and misogynist rhetoric.”

Corbyn is one of many who have publicly opposed giving Trump a state visit, as thousands of people are expected to attend a protest in London at the time of the visit that Theresa May promised Trump after his election victory in 2016.

Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, has also declined the invitation alongside Liberal Democrats leader Vince Cable.

In a statement, Mr Corbyn said: “Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honour a president who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric.

“Maintaining an important relationship with the United States does not require the pomp and ceremony of a state visit. It is disappointing that the prime minister has again opted to kowtow to this US administration.

“I would welcome a meeting with President Trump to discuss all matters of interest.”

A spokesperson for John Bercow said he was “invited to the banquet, but he will not be attending.” The SNP’s leader in Westminster Ian Blackford will not be attending the meal either, saying the Prime Minister “should instead be holding meetings to challenge the US administration and raise key issues.”

But, quell fucking surprise, Jeremy Hunt has said the UK should offer the “the best possible welcome” to the orange man child.

Theresa May’s spokesperson came out with the vomit-inducing line that she is “looking forward to welcoming the president here to build on our special relationship”.

The state visit is scheduled to take place between June 3-5, with the dinner scheduled for the first night of the visit.
