‘It’s that spicy enough where I wouldn’t do it without checking’
Jimmy Carr has revealed that he got Pete Davidson’s permission for a risqué joke he made about his father who died on 9/11.
Pete Davidson’s father, Scott, was a firefighter who tragically died during the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001.
Fifteen years later, in 2016 Carr was taking part in one of Comedy Central’s famous ‘roasts’ where comedians and celebs take it in turns to roast another famous figure.
On this occasion it was Parks and Recreation star Rob Lowe.
With Davidson sat listening on the panel, Carr joked: “I’m appalled that people would come here and make jokes about the sacrifice Pete’s heroic father made on 9/11.
“This is not the roast of Pete Davidson’s father.
“That was in 2001.”
As the audience reacts with predictable shock, Davidson laughs – describing the joke as “dope.”

Speaking on the Have A Word Podcast last year, the British comic revealed that before doing the joke on the show, he “tested” it at the Hollywood Improv comedy club in Los Angeles.
He said that it got a “laugh and then a ‘oooh'” but that one person in particular was laughing harder than everyone else.
Carr continued: “And then there’s a laugh from the back of the room, like a sustained f***ing maniacal laugh from the back of the room.”
It was Davidson himself.
He continued: “And you went ‘ok’, because it’s one of those where it’s that spicy enough where I wouldn’t do it without checking.
“And also I really admire Pete, I like Pete a lot, I think he’s a good guy.”
