Won’t someone please spare a thought for the straight white guy?!?!
Joe Rogan has yet again found himself at the centre of controversy after attacking so-called ‘woke’ culture and suggesting that we may soon get to the point where “straight white men” won’t be allowed to talk. Which of course would be terrible for Rogan and his hugely popular podcast.
While speaking with the comedian Joe List on his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, the two discussed whether it was possible to make edgy comedy in today’s day and age. Rogan said that “you can never be woke enough,” and if you give into woke people’s demands it will eventually get to the point where “straight white men are not allowed to talk” and suggested that people won’t be allowed to go outside “because so many people have been imprisoned for so many years.”
The host said: “You can never be ‘woke’ enough, that’s the problem.
“It keeps going. It keeps going further and further and further down the line, and if you get to the point where you capitulate, where you agree to all these demands, it’ll eventually get to straight white men are not allowed to talk. Because it’s your privilege to express yourself when other people of colour have been silenced throughout history.
“It will be, you’re not allowed to go outside. Because so many people were imprisoned for so many years – I’m not joking, it really will get there. It’s that crazy.
“We just gotta be nice to each other, man. And there’s a lot of people that are taking advantage of this weirdness in our culture, and then that becomes their thing. Their thing is calling people out for their privilege, calling people out for their position.
“You know, so, it’s fucking crazy times.”

Some may see this as a not-so-thinly veiled attempt for Rogan to justify his relevance in society and maintain a voice that he may feel is being silenced and unjustly attacked. And they’d probably be right.
