Manchester United’s Juan Mata has donated toys for children on a visit to a Manchester children’s charity.
The Spaniard visited Wood Street Mission, an organisation that helps families affected by poverty in Manchester and Salford, on Thursday afternoon.
The Manchester United Foundation – the club’s charitable arm – were also involved with the visit.

Later in the afternoon, a tweet from the charity confirmed that Mata had dropped off the toys for some of the children that are helped by the charity, as well as stopping to hear more on how the organisation helps the local community.

The news comes just a week after Rio Ferdinand, one of Mata’s former Manchester United teammates, donated over half a millions pounds’ worth of toys to Manchester radio station Key 103’s Cash for Kids Campaign. The donation was made on behalf of Rosso – the restaurant he owns in the city.
Me & @RossoRestaurant are doing our bit this Xmas for #missionchristmas @CFKKEY103 with @KEY103 come on get involved Manchester!

Ferdinand also revealed he intended to donate 11,500 sleeping bags for the homeless.
At a time when there’s more than enough said and written about how much money footballers earn, it’s good to hear stories of them giving something to people in need.
