The police are not treating it as a terror incident
Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock was put into lockdown last night as police investigate three separate serious incidents.
Two members of the hospital staff were reportedly stabbed outside the hospital at 7:45pm on Thursday evening, before two more ‘potentially linked’ incidents occurred in the city.
The second incident happened 20 minutes later on Portland Street before a road crash took place on the A76 around 8:30pm.
Police have said that while the incidents may be linked, they’re not being treated as terror related.
Crosshouse hospital’s lockdown was lifted at 11pm last night.
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted last night: “My thoughts are with those involved in these very serious incidents in Crosshouse/Kilmarnock,” urging residents to “help Ayrshire police do their job by following the advice to stay away from the areas affected.”
A police spokesperson said:
A force spokesperson said: “Enquiries into these incidents are at an early stage and these areas have been cordoned off at this time.
“We can confirm the ongoing incidents in the Kilmarnock area are not being treated as terrorist-related. There is no cause for concern for the wider community.”
Crawford McGuffie, medical director for NHS Ayrshire & Arran, said: “Following the police incident earlier this evening, University Hospital Crosshouse was put under lockdown.
“Police Scotland have confirmed the risk to patients, staff and visitors to the hospital is minimal, and so this lockdown has been lifted.
“There remains a large police presence on the grounds of the hospital.”
