The Kyiv defence commander leading the charge in Ukraine’s capital city has successfully repelled a Russian attack overnight on February 27.

Updating people via Facebook on Monday morning, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi spoke on how Russian troops had attempted to enter the city overnight, reports the Financial Times.

“The occupier’s equipment columns were destroyed,” Syrskyi said in the post published by Ukraine’s military general staff. “The opponent suffered significant losses of personnel.”

Ukraine’s military also said that Russian troops are continuing their attacks on airports, defence systems, critical infrastructure, and residential areas throughout the country.

This comes as the President of Belarus, where Russian soldiers entered from, has blamed the West “for pushing Russia into Third World War.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is being hailed as a hero, not just by his people, but also by people worldwide. While fighting himself, Zelenskyy has kept his official Twitter active with updates on phone calls with foreign powers.

Most recently, he wrote: “Talked to Prime Minister @BorisJohnson and President @AndrzejDuda about the current security situation. Agreed on further joint steps to counter the aggressor. Anti-war coalition in action!”

In a separate Tweet, Zelenskyy thanked the EU commissioner, citing that he also “had a phone conversation with @vonderleyen.

“Talked about concrete decisions on strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, macro-financial assistance and Ukraine’s membership in the #EU.”
